Pre School Leader
Job description
We are seeking to recruit a Pre-school leader. This is a permanent role subject to successful completion of a 6 month probation period. This post is for a minimum of 25 hours per week. The Leader must contribute to and enhance to the overall ethos aims of Carrick Pre-School. The Leader with the Management Committee is responsible for the overall safety and well-being of the children and for implementing the standards laid down in DHSSPS for Child Minding and Day Care for Children Under Age 12 Minimum Standards and fulfil the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) statutory framework. Through self-evaluation, the Leader responsible for ensuring the development of a quality service following the ETI publication ‘Together Towards Improvement’. In consultation with the staff, the Leader should ensure that planning and preparation is carried out and that the activities offered throughout the session allow the children to experience safe, creative and appropriate opportunities in a supportive learning environment. The Leader is responsible for managing and maintaining of staffing levels within the required ratios. The Leader is responsible for actively promoting and facilitating relevant staff training and development opportunities. The Leader, alongside the Management Committee, is responsible for ensuring the yearly review and implementation of the Child Protection Policy. The Leader must actively promote and support the safeguarding of children and young people in the workplace, ensuring that all staff and volunteers observe Setting policies and procedures to keep children safe from harm. The Leader is responsible for the support and supervision of staff on a day-to-day basis, regular one-to-one meetings, facilitate and chair staff meetings and working with the Management Committee for the regular annual appraisal of staff. The Leader should ensure that the playroom is fully set out before the session commences and is tidied up and clean after the session ends. The Leader is also responsible for ensuring good standards of hygiene are followed and that equipment is safe and regularly checked for repair. It is vital that risk assessments are carried out on a regular basis. The leader is responsible for promoting inclusivity, positive values, attitudes and good child behaviour; dealing promptly with conflict and incidents in line with established policy and encouraging children to take responsibility for their own behaviour. The Leader is responsible for liaising with advisory and support staff in the development and improvement of the Pre-School..
Responsibilities
- Make sure setting is appropriately laid and tided up after each session
- Ensure overall safety and well being of the children
- Ensure that planning and preparation is carried out and play activities are available to allow children to experience learning in all areas of the pre-school curriculum.
- Engaging with parents and keeping them informed on their child's progress
- Liaising with management committee and attending meetings
- Oversee completion of risk assessments throughout the setting
- Attending relevant ongoing training courses
- The leader will carry out any other reasonable duties relevant to the post
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- QCF level 5 in children's care learning and development
- Minimum of 2 years experience in a early years setting within the last 5 years
- At least 2 years experience in a setting implementing the DOE early years curriculum in the last 5 years
Desirable Skills
- Experience as a leader or deputy
- Experience managing staff
- Experience of ETI inspection and Early Years accreditation
Further Information
The successful candidate must hold a valid Child Protection certificate and have completed Paediatric First Aid training prior to commencement of the post.
