Locum Consultant in Obstetrics & Gynaecology


Job description

The successful candidate will be one of a team of 10 consultants who provide on-call cover, outpatient and theatre work. This is a consultant led service providing the full range of inpatient and outpatient obstetrical and gynaecological services including colposcopy, urodynamics, outpatient hysteroscopy and gynae-oncology, within the northern sector of the Western Trust. These services are provided at Altnagelvin Hospital, as well as a range of outpatient services at Roe Valley Hospital (Limavady), Omagh and Strabane. Responsibilities

  • Share responsibility for inpatient, outpatient and day care services within the Directorate of Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Work within the Directorate as a member of the team thus ensuring continuity of approach and care
  • Participate in the night and weekend on-call rota with the other consultants in the Department The on call supplement is dependent on the number of WTE responsible to the Clinical Director for the maintenance of personal professional standards
  • Be responsible to the Clinical Director for the maintenance of personal professional standards

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Hold or be eligible for Full General Medical Council (London) registration with a Licence to Practice
  • Primary Medical degree
  • MRCOG or equivalent specialist qualification in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • Be entered onto or be eligible to be entered onto the GMC Specialist Register (Obstetrics and Gynaecology) via Relevant CCT or equivalent (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview date)
  • Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car is essential
  • This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport approved by the Trust which will permit them to carry out the duties of the post

Desirable Skills

  • Completed ATSM in one of the following, Benign gynaecological surgery, Hysteroscopy, Urogynaecology
  • Higher degree e.g. MSc, PhD or other higher degree
