QHSE & Fuel Manager


Job description

Key responsibilities will be: Monitor and Promote Company Operational KPIs and drive a program which delivers against these. Monitor and promote company and plant HSE KPIs and assist in ensuring the plant remains audit compliant. Provide HSE guidance to the plant team, support corporate initiatives whilst ensuring that statutory requirements, company policies and procedures are developed, reviewed and communicated through safety initiatives, off site safety days, newsletters and monthly HSE & SD Forums. Implements the companies’ health, safety and environmental management policies. Liaise with all off site legislative bodies and provide reports as required concerning key metrics such as safety statistics, environmental performance, availability, efficiency and outage rate statistics. Act as the site focus for compliance with relevant Health, Safety and Environmental legislation. Support the Production and Maintenance teams with experience and knowledge as required. Support the management of change process, assisting to ensure that all new projects are Safety Rules Cleared before they are brought into the system. Audit the Emergency preparedness of the team and set up frequent drills to test response. Support RCA internal and cross site RCA investigations and promptly share the lessons of all serious safety incidents through Regional SHEQ . Write, review and revise when necessary, instructions and procedures associated with plant safety and environmental issues. Carry out training and authorisations for duties under the BWSC UK Safety Rules as required. Ensure day to day compliance with all aspects of the off loading systems including, daily routine lifting equipment inspections including on site traffic management systems and any other checks to systems within your area duties. Assist the operations team to ensure that plant is in a fit and correct state for return to service following maintenance, outage or other prolonged shutdown. Undertake continuing personal development to enhance knowledge & skills relevant to the role. Participating in department training and development. Carrying out responsibilities as defined in the companies Safety Rules and associated procedures. Participate in company/site HSE initiatives including the HSE forum activities. Defined responsibilities in responding to site emergencies. To work flexible working patterns in support of the business. Ensure strict compliance with software and plant modification procedures and directives. Supporting other UK business if the need arises. .

Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Operations & Plant Managers you will manage the operation of all quality, health safety and environmental aspects of the plant. You will manage all aspects of Fuel handling operations.
  • Foster an ethos of maximum plant reliability, , flexibility, availability. This is to be achieved whilst attaining high standards of Quality, Health Safety & Environmental performance.
  • Ensure compliance with the recommendations made by 3rd party service providers
  • Ensure the plant remains compliant with regards to the key legislative and internal governance requirements (with a particular focus on health, safety and environmental aspects)
  • Ensure implementation and auditing of safe systems of work procedures and policies.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Qualifications below this may be acceptable if accompanied by suitable experience. A good understanding of all HSE aspects is a fundamental requirement NEBOSH or IOSH
  • Excellent verbal/written communication skills.
  • Familiar with a number of computer applications.
  • Good interpersonal skills, self motivated, flexible
  • Communication and motivational skills

Desirable Skills

  • Operations: Prior experience in Operations and/or Maintenance of a large processing facility or similar; ideally a power station or similar Thermal power production infrastructure.
  • Key characteristics of the successful candidate: HSE qualified and experienced
  • A flexible and adaptable personality; Suited to a culture which is entrepreneurial, fast paced and value driven; Very comfortable working in a lean structure
  • Minimum of HND in an Engineering or related discipline.
  • Able to communicate with all levels of the organisation
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Strong organisational skills
  • At least 3 years in power generation industry operations and maintenance. Exposure to heavy process plant maintenance activity.
  • Knowledge of power generation operations & maintenance associated with Steam turbines, boilers, balance of plant, electrical generation, & distribution up to 33Kv, plant control, instrumentation, and computer aided Maintenance Management applications
