Libraries NI is seeking applications from motivated and enthusiastic individuals for a Part Time Library Assistant in Castlederg. Terms and Conditions of employment are National Joint Council for local government and successful post holders will have access to: Minimum 22 days annual leave plus 12 statutory holidays. The closing date for applications is Thursday 23 June 2022 at 11.59pm. Libraries NI is responsible for the provision and delivery of a public library service in Northern Ireland, connecting people with information, ideas and experiences. Responsibilities

  • Handling client enquiries using print and electronic resources (eg books, CD ROM and the Internet);
  • Processing requests
  • Helping clients to select and use all library resources and facilities
  • Introducing and explaining library services, rules and regulation to new and existing clients and operating Libraries NI complaints procedure
  • Registering clients
  • Assist with the routine delivery of the programme of promotional activities to include school class visits, story time, user education events, special initiatives etc.
  • Assist with the day to day routine procedures and the delivery of client focussed library services in the areas of learning, information, leisure and culture
  • Shelving, tidying, maintaining books and other resources
  • Circulation e.g.: issue, discharge, and renewal procedures for all resources
  • Operation of information communication technology relevant to the post
  • Assist with collation of statistics and maintenance of appropriate records as required
  • Play an active role within the team in ensuring that all services are provided to consistently high standards and comply with current library policy and procedures
  • Provide the first response to comments and complaints from the public within the guidelines of the Library Services complaint procedure

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Experience of working with the public in a face to face customer focused environment (at least one year).
  • Experience of using current Information Communication Technology (ICT) for accessing, selecting and using information
  • Experience of working in a team environment
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • A minimum of five GCSE GCE O levels at grades A-C or equivalent, including English and Maths or equivalent higher qualification.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of supporting, contributing to or delivering events or activities
  • Experience of providing a face to face service to a diverse range of the public, which must include evidence of working with children and older people, in a customer focused environment.
  • Experience of working in a public, academic or specialist Library

£19,650 to £20,043 (NJC points 5-6) pro rata, Work time Tuesday-Friday 10:30am -17:00pm.
