Support Worker
Job description
Could you help support a young person who is homeless or leaving care to make the transition to interdependent living and their own tenancy? MACS are currently recruiting for caring individuals to provide practical support and guidance to young people. Belfast, Downpatrick, Lisburn and Newry Supported Housing Services (Move in to Move On) provide supported housing for young people. Support Workers provide an accessible point of contact at night and weekends to promote the protection and safeguarding of young people living at MACS and help them to build skills and confidence to maintain their own homes. .
Responsibilities
- Ensure all young people are cared for by appropriate staff. Workers will participate in shift patterns that meet the needs of the young people.
- To develop purposeful and nurturing relationships with young people working with compassion and resilience in what can be a challenging environment.
- Adhere to NISCC Standard of Conduct and MACS Policies and Procedures including, Child Protection, Adult Safeguarding and Lone Worker in order to safeguard and protect Young People and Staff.
- To provide holistic support (on a one to one and group basis) to all young people accessing the service.
- Support the move in and move on process.
- To support young people to complete the tasks identified in their support plans.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- 6 Months experience (paid or voluntary) of supporting people in a caring role as an employee, volunteer or carer.
- Understanding and knowledge of homelessness, mental health and substance use.
- Ability to practice in line with MACS ethos and values
Desirable Skills
- Experience of working in a supported housing or residential environment
- A health and social care qualification or third level education
- A full current driving license and access to a car is required so as to be able to meet the requirements of the post in full.
