Job description

Twisel Lodge in Holywood Co. Down, is a residential home, registered with RQIA to provide services for 8 adults who have Learning Disabilities and associated complex needs. For most of our residents Twisel Lodge is their home however as part of the eight-person service, we also provide a ‘respite’ facility through which adults with learning disabilities can come and stay with us for a break. This service provides an opportunity for the main careers to get a break from caring duties and enables them to refresh and to be able to continue their caring role. As part of the caring team, you will help create and maintain a caring and safe environment where the personal care and social needs of the residents are fulfilled..

Responsibilities

  • Build rapport with the residents and understand their interests and needs
  • Work with colleagues and other health and social care professionals to deliver individual care plans
  • Undertake personal care tasks including washing, dressing, eating and drinking and assisting residents with their continence requirements
  • Observe, monitor and record residents physical and emotional well-being, and promptly report any changes to the line manager
  • Assist in the safe moving and handling, transferring and repositioning of residents
  • Accompany residents to and from the residential home
  • Accompany residents to medical appointments as required
  • Enable residents to participate in social and recreational activities
  • Enable residents to eat and drink and give out medication as required
  • Support families
  • Report any adverse incidents, e.g. falls, accidents, complaints etc.to a senior member of staff
  • Ensure that all work within the home is resident focused and upholds the principles of respect, privacy, dignity, fulfilment, independence and choice
  • Ensure resident opinions and suggestions are listened to and that their needs are addressed in a sensitive manner
  • Take responsibility for receiving and receipting all residents monies and monitor petty cash expenditure as applicable

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • An interest in working with people in a caring and supportive role
  • Effective Numeracy & Literacy skills
  • Knowledge of Learning disability and or complex care needs

Further Information

Work time, rota to be confirmed. We are currently offering a Welcome Bonus totalling £1000: The bonus will be £250 on successful completion of 3 months service, a further £250 on successful completion of 6 months service & a further £500 paid on first anniversary totalling £1000.
