Senior Coder


Job description

The Senior Clinical Coding will have responsibility for the supervision of Clinical Coders and for the accurate and timely completion of coded clinical data on the Patient Administration System. The post holder will also ensure that there are comprehensive and effective procedures in place for the consistent provision of quality and timely clinical information across the Trust. To support the clinical coding manager in identifying complex speciality based projects where coding or data quality issues exist and require resolution from a coding or medical perspective. The post holder will also be responsible for taking forward project actions to support process and quality improvement and developing stronger working relationships with relevant clinical and administrative staff to ensure high standards of data quality are achieved and maintained in relation to clinical coding. The post holder will be responsible for developing awareness sessions for clinical or administrative staff in relation to the speciality projects and supporting the development of a greater understanding of the importance of coding within the clinical and administrative workforce. Responsibilities

  • Support the Clinical Coding Manager in the day-to-day running of the Clinical Coding Department to ensure that deadlines and targets are achieved through re-prioritisation, particularly during coders absence.
  • To ensure that all coders are aware of the priorities for coding, rationale for this and to ensure that staff are working collaboratively and collectively to achieve these targets.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • A minimum of 5 years Clinical Coding Experience
  • Working knowledge of PAS
