Afterschool Assistant Leader


Job description

The Assistant Leader is responsible, alongside the Leader, for the day-to-day running of the Afterschool Club and ensuring that there is a safe, clean, caring and welcoming environment for children and their families. .

Responsibilities

  • The Assistant Leader is responsible for supporting the Leader in charge with the overall safety and well being of the children and for implementing the standards laid down by DHSSPS, WHSCT and Camowen Partnership Ltd.
  • In the absence on the Leader the Assistant Leader will be expected to take on the role of Leader in Charge.
  • Support the Leader to ensure that planning and preparation is carried out and that the activities offered throughout the session allow the children to experience creative, imaginative, manipulative, social and physical play.
  • The Assistant Leader should support the Leader to ensure that the playroom is fully set out before the session commences and is tidied up after the session ends.
  • The Assistant Leader should ensure good standards of hygiene are followed and that equipment is safe and regularly checked for repair.
  • Keep up-to-date records as stipulated by WHSCT, Camowen Partnership Ltd and their Funding Bodies, and the requirements of the management of the group (e.g. waiting lists, daily register, accident book, incident book, accounts records, invoices etc.
  • The Assistant Leader should advise management of any matter requiring attention, such as concerns about a child or equipment needing replacement or repair.
  • The Assistant Leader should adhere to the Code of Conduct outlined by Camowen Partnership Ltd at all times.
  • The Assistant Leader should be available to attend to any other reasonable duties relevant to the post.
  • The Assistant Leader should keep strictly confidential any personal information regarding the children, their families or other staff, which he/she learns as part of her job. Such information should only be passed on in the interests of a child.
  • The Assistant Leader will be expected to take part in, and help with the organisation of special events, outings, visits and fundraising activities.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • 2 years' experience working with children, ideally with school age.
  • Level 3 in Play work or Equivalent.
  • Level 5 in Childcare Learning & Development or Equivalent or willing to work towards within 24 months.
  • It is essential that the Assistant Leader attends relevant, ongoing training courses and evening meetings. Course fees may be met by the Camowen Partnership for approved training.

Desirable Skills

  • Safeguarding / Child Protection Certificate.
  • Paediatric First Aid Certificate.
  • Food Hygiene Certificate.
  • GCSE English Grade C or Above.
  • GCSE Maths Grade C or above.
  • IT Qualification.

Further Information

Salary: £9.61 up until 01.04.23, £10.53 per hour after 01.04.23 Employment will fully commence on 20.03.23 however the applicant will be offered the opportunity to commence work as soon as their vetting clearance is received. Permanent position for 12 months, at which time employment will be reviewed and possibly extended. Hours during Holidays Periods may increase or decrease depending on demand as we open from 8.30am - 5.45pm during July and August
