Job description

CAFRE’s Equine Branch at Enniskillen Campus has responsibility for the delivery of equine education, knowledge transfer and innovation programmes to new entrants and those working in the equine industry. The Enniskillen Campus estate comprises 62 hectares, including 12 hectares of ungrazed wetlands, woodland and equine facilities. The Campus estate is managed sensitively and accredited under the Linking Environment and Farming (LEAF) Scheme. The first equine students graduated from Enniskillen in 1998 and since then over 800 young people have qualified with Diplomas or Degrees. A unique aspect of CAFRE’s equine provision is that Equine Technologists work alongside Equine Lecturers and Instructors to provide a range of industry training and innovation programmes which enable new entrants and those working in the industry to gain an understanding of the latest equine research and development..

Responsibilities

  • Leading teams of professional staff in a technical environment to achieve business plan targets & ensure the development & delivery of equine education, knowledge transfer & innovation programmes to meet DAERA targets & the needs of the industry
  • Leading the management and development of Enniskillen Campus facilities and estate;
  • Leading student support and safeguarding and the development and delivery of Health and Safety policy and procedures at Enniskillen Campus;
  • Leading human, financial and physical resources to achieve operational targets and obtain best Value for Money, whilst complying with good governance principles;
  • Ensuring effective external stakeholder engagement to deliver DAERA objectives, as set out in corporate, business and operational plans

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • EC1 At least an Honours Degree (2.2 classification), or an equivalent qualification, in Equine Studies, or Equine Management or Equine Science, or a closely related subject (Please refer to CIB)
  • EC2 At least three years' experience at middle management level (please refer to CIB) of successfully using professional and technical knowledge to contribute to significant industry support programmes ..
  • EC2 Continued .. or other industry initiatives for the benefit of the Equine sector, that have achieved impact
  • EC3 At least three years' experience of effective leadership in an area of strategic (Please refer to CIB) significance to your organisation, where you deployed excellent communication skills to achieve successful ..
