Consultant Pharmacist, Antimicrobials
Job description
Lead and develop the role of the consultant pharmacist for antimicrobials across the Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT). Interpret policy to implement best practice across the WHSCT. The consultant will line manage and professionally lead a team of pharmacists and technicians ensuring the prudent and effective use of antimicrobial therapy. Integrate fully into the WHSCT antimicrobial multi-professional team including the consultant microbiologists, infection prevention control specialist nurses and microbiology laboratory management structures. To provide an expert level of antimicrobial therapy medicines management to an identified case load of patients with complex needs and accept referrals from clinical staff and other professionals. Implement and evaluate a service development, looking at the benefits to patients, of different models of pharmaceutical care, using robust research methodologies. The post holder will work closely and integrate with the medical, nursing and multi-professional teams, delivering quality pharmaceutical patient care to patients across the primary and secondary care interface the primary and secondary care interface..

- To demonstrate advanced level of professional reasoning and judgement as well as a whole system approach to the use of antimicrobials.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Band 8c Minimum of 7years post registration experience including 5 years in hospital of which 2 years must be at band 8a or above and At least 2 years post registration experience working as a clinical pharmacist.
- Band 8b progressing to band 8c. The candidate will progress to band 8c following a Trust process after they meet the personnel specification at band 8c.
- Minimum of 6 years post registration experience including 4 years in hospital of which 2 years must be at band 8a or above and At least 2 years post registration experience working as a clinical pharmacist
- Undergraduate pharmacy degree e.g. BSc, BPharm, MPharm or equivalent. One year pre-registration training. Member or eligible to be a member of the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland.
- Postgraduate diploma in a pharmacy discipline. Postgraduate diploma or Masters in antimicrobials/ infection management or willing to complete within 3 years
Desirable Skills
- Postgraduate Masters degree in a pharmacy discipline
