Afterschools Assistant


Job description

To assist the Senior After School Leader in supervising children attending the After School Club, for varying needs and interests, providing appropriate activities, encouraging cooperation, securing safety and monitoring well-being of children aged 4-11 years old within a busy community based organisation. .

Responsibilities

  • To provide a stimulating varied programme.
  • To prepare forward planning activities.
  • To oversee the welfare and behaviour of the children.
  • To work closely with the children and parents.
  • To ensure confidentiality at all times.
  • To assist with the preparing of the Afterschools before each session.
  • To ensure a good standard of hygiene and safety.
  • To work closely with other members of the team.
  • To work alongside the play care leader.
  • To participate in special seasonal activities e.g. summer schemes or cross community events.
  • To attend child care/play care team meetings as required and contribute to the development of programmes and activities for children.
  • To attend staff meeting and team training at Winsor Women's Centre and contribute to the decision making as a whole.
  • Any other duties as may be agreed between the post holder and their line manager which are deemed appropriate to the status of this job.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years experience of working in a childcare or play care setting (either voluntary or paid).
  • N.V.Q Level 2 Childcare or Playcare equivalent.
  • A comprehensive understanding of children's development and their physical, social, educational and emotional needs.
  • A genuine interest motivation and enjoyment around working with children.
  • Willingness to undertake flexible working hours.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and as part of the team.
  • An understanding of the role and vale of childcare within a community Womens Centre.
  • An ability to communicate effectively with parents.
  • An understanding of the tight of children and an ability to incorporate this into working practices.

Desirable Skills

  • NVQ Level 3 or Equivalent.
  • A First Aid Certificate.
  • A Clean Driving Licence.
