Practitioner Psychologist


Job description

The Practitioner Psychologist role is to provide a high-quality specialist psychology service to children, adolescents and their families attending paediatric services within Belfast Trust. The post forms part of the paediatric psychology team which serves a range of medical specialties within paediatrics. The psychologist will provide specialist psychological assessment and therapy to patients and families, at the same time as offering advice and consultation on patient’s psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, nonprofessional carers. Work is autonomous within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures. The psychologist will also contribute to research, audit, policy, and service development..

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialist psychological advice, guidance and consultation to other multidisciplinary professionals, both within hospital and community settings, contributing directly to clients formulation, diagnosis and treatment plans
  • Undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual patients and to provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management in line with policies and procedures

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Experience of working with children and families. Doctoral degree or equivalent accepted by the British Psychological Society as qualifying the person to work as a Registered Practitioner Psychologist.
  • Must be HCPC registered (in case of new graduates, registration achieved by start of post) and eligible for registration as a Chartered Psychologist with the British Psychological Society

Desirable Skills

  • Understanding of the implications of working in an acute health setting. Experience of delivering training to groups of people
  • Experience of providing supervision to staff.
  • Experience in designing, planning and undertaking clinical research and service evaluation.
