Catering Assistant

Job description

To actively participate in the daily operation of the Catering Unit (College cafeteria) under the direction of the Unit Catering Supervisor. Team participation is essential to provide an efficient hygienic service, to achieve customer satisfaction and to promote sales within the unit..


  • Basic preparation of food and beverages, simple cooking, organisation and control of food service points, transferring and serving of food, general kitchen and dining room duties including washing up, clearing away and cleaning and till operation.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Level 2 award in Food Safety in Catering or equivalent (attained within the last 3 years), OR Minimum of 1 year of traditional cooking methods experience in a school meals or similar catering outlet.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in cash handling.

Further Information

The position is term-time only, however during days of College closure, a retaining fee will be paid. Salary scale: NJC1 to NJC2 (starting at £10.79/hour). Posts involving work in educational institutions are regulated and subject to AccessNI registration. Work time: 10.30am to 3.00pm Monday to Friday (term-time)
