Job description

To offer direct counselling to individuals who have developed a substance misuse problem, their families and concerned persons. .

Responsibilities

• To carry out direct assessment of a persons counselling needs.
• To provide counselling within the Northlands Non-residential and/or Residential Treatment Programmes.
• To facilitate Treatment and Aftercare groups.
• The post holder may be required to work unsocial hours which may include evenings and weekends as part of a rota.
• To be part of the Northlands counselling team and to work under supervision.
• To maintain a log of work done and to keep client records up-to-date.
• To undertake any other duties as required by the Head of Treatment commensurate with experience and skills.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• A recognised counselling qualification OR other equivalent qualification (equivalence to be determined by Northlands) AND commitment to working to achieve a counselling qualification within an agreed time period of appointment.
• Evidence of a minimum of one years experience of working in a supervised counselling setting or relatable field.
• Evidence of the capacity to work effectively as part of a team.
• History of an ability to work effectively with people from a variety of relevant disciplines and organisations.

Desirable Skills

• Accredited/Associate membership of a recognised Counselling Association e.g. Addiction Counselling Ireland (ACI); British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
• Group, individual and family counselling experience.
• An understanding of current and developing approaches in the field of alcohol and drug treatment.
• Computer literacy (at least word-processing and presentation software).
