Job description
To maintain and improve all Council assets such as civic buildings, leisure centres, sports grounds, caravan parks and community halls. Includes both new works and repairs. To present a courteous attitude at all times towards the public and staff. Ensure that the department complies with all statutory and legislative requirements by adhering to these requirements and working in accordance with good governance and health and safety requirements. Ensure that all responsibilities are carried out in a timely and effective manner and that general confidentiality is maintained in all areas relating to the work of the Council..
Responsibilities
- General building, maintenance including but not limited to:
- Inspection, repairs, installation, renovations, planned and reactive maintenance;
- Assisting tradesmen with new works to Council assets;
- Plant Operation (excavators, telescopic handlers etc);
- Assisting other departments.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- A valid Health & Safety CSR/CSCS card.
- A minimum of 18 months experience in a skilled building maintenance (handyman and/or plant operator) role gained in a commercial setting (non-domestic), to include:
- Supervisory experience
- Set up, safe use and routine maintenance of a variety of construction plant (eg excavators, dumpers, mechanical elevated working platforms and telescopic handlers)
- Set up, safe use and routine maintenance of a range of powered and manual hand tools (eg breaking hammers, drills, grinders and saws).
- A full current driving licence, Category valid in the UK.
- Available for response in emergency situations as necessary.
- The nature of the post requires flexible working eg available evenings, weekends and holiday periods as required.
- Category C1 plus E valid in the UK
Desirable Skills
- Certified under NHSS Traffic Management Scheme.
- Tractor driving qualification.
