Nursery Assistant
Job description
The Assistant should support the Room Leader in ensuring that there is a safe, caring and welcoming environment for children and their families. .
Responsibilities
- Help ensure that the room is appropriately laid out before the session commences and is tidied up after the session ends.
- The Assistant also helps to ensure good standards of hygiene are followed and that equipment is safe and regularly checked as recommended in DHSSPS guidelines.
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings and assist in planning and preparation is carried out and that the activities offered throughout the session allow the children to experience the full breadth of the curriculum offered.
- Carry our regular observations and make an assessment of each child's needs within the group and plan daily to meet these needs.
- Help provide and take part in all the group's activities, nappy changing and cleaning of the rooms.
- Take part in special events and group outings.
- Encourage parental involvement.
- Attend relevant evening meetings and courses as directed by the manager.
- Advise the Room Leader of any matter requiring attention, e.g. concerns about a child, or equipment needing repaired/replaced.
- Keep strictly confidential any personal information regarding the children, their families or other staff which is learnt as part of the job. Such information must not be passed on unless it is in the interest of a child.
- The Assistant will then approach the supervisor with the information. Only if she/he feels the Room Leader is not taking adequate action should the assistant take the matter further e.g. to the Manager, owner.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Level 3 CCLD or willing to enroll.

Work time: 7.15am-6pm, flexible, as and when required.
