Job description
Ethnic Communities Officer - Polish Bi-Lingual To increase equality of opportunity of individuals from minority ethnic backgrounds through identifying and addressing needs while developing capacity and building relationships with participant communities in the Causeway Coast and Glens Council area and beyond. .
Responsibilities
- Provide a drop-in support service for members of BAME communities.
- Facilitate individuals and ethnic groups and provide culturally sensitive services to meet their needs as identified through primary and secondary research across the Causeway Coast and Glens Borough
- To work closely with Community Advice centre (CAC) to promote a culturally sensitive advice service.
- Assist ethnic communities to develop their capacity through direct small scale intervention, including funding for projects and events and the provision of ESOL language classes
- Liaise with relevant agencies to develop signposting service and information on services and particular documents available in relevant languages.
- Provide a range of networking opportunities and capacity building initiatives to engage individuals from ethnic minority and migrant worker communities.
- To work with existing community organisations to ensure the inclusion of ethnic minority groups in the planning and delivery of new projects. Encourage volunteers to be part of this process.
- To deliver anti-racism, prejudice awareness and hate crime initiatives/training to a wide variety of groups including local government, school and youth groups.
- Assist in the delivery of events designed to promote multi-culturalism.
- Attend fora and events organised by other organisations in the field to share information and good practice and engage in PR activity to promote the project.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Fluency in both spoken and written English and Fluency in Polish
- 3rd Level Qualification AND 1 years development practice/experience in either a paid or voluntary capacity
- OR 3 years Work undertaken with ethnic minority communities/foreign nationals/migrant workers either in a paid or voluntary capacity.

Desirable Skills
- Fluency or Knowledge of other languages eg: Russian and Slovakian.
- Experience of Public Relations activity.
- Be able to demonstrate relevant experience in carrying out research, particularly community based research and to accurately compile and collate data.
