Job description

To participate in the delivery of an effective Environmental Health Service which is customer focused, innovative and value for money. To implement and enforce relevant statutory provisions in relation to Dog Control, Litter Control, other Environmental Protection legislation and relevant Council Byelaws for which you are personally authorised to enforce and to provide advice and make recommendations to the Public, Commercial and other Government Organisations. To comply with all statutory and legislative requirements by adhering to these requirements and working in accordance with good governance and health and safety requirements. .

Responsibilities

  • Enforcement of all legislation relevant to Dog Control including:
  • The Dogs Order (NI) 1983 as amended.
  • Dog Control Orders as made under the Clean Neighbourhoods and Environment Act (NI) 2011.
  • The Welfare of Animals (Dog Breeding Establishments and Miscellaneous Amendments) Regulations (NI) 2013.
  • Enforcement of legislation relevant to the control of litter, fly-tipping, fly-posting, graffiti and abandoned vehicles.
  • Educational Initiatives relevant to the functional area.
  • Enforcement of Byelaws relevant to the functional area.
  • Ensure that all responsibilities are carried out in a timely and effective manner and that general confidentiality is maintained in all areas relating to the work of the Council.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Five GCSE's (Grades A-C), or equivalent, including a numerical subject and English Language.
  • One year's experience in an enforcement role to include dog handling.
  • Experience in the use of Microsoft Office packages to include: Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • A full current driving licence (Category B, valid in the UK) and access to a vehicle that will enable the post holder to meet the requirements of the post OR have access to a form of transport that enables you to carry out the duties of the post.
  • Available for response in emergency situations as necessary.
  • The nature of the post requires flexible working eg work outside normal office hours, including evening meetings and weekends as required.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience in the enforcement of legislation.
  • Experience of working dogs in a professional capacity.
  • Experience in the use of Environmental Health Software management package (Tascomi).

Further Information

The closing date and time for receipt of completed applications is Monday 20 February 2023 at 4 pm. One full time: 37 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 9.00 am - 5.00 pm (based in Ballymoney)
