Specialty Doctor in Paediatrics
Job description
Participate with colleagues within the directorate to maintain overall standards in paediatric care. Liaison with other clinical/investigative departments as required. Be aware of responsibility and required response in major emergency incidents. Adhere to all Department, Trust and Professional standards as required..
Responsibilities
- Share responsibility for inpatient care at the South West Acute Hospital.
- Participate in out-patient clinics, where applicable.
- Supporting and supervising doctors working on the junior tier (ST1-2 equivalent).
- Communicate with colleagues in hospital and general practice.
- Provide medical support during transfer of patients as required
- Maintain clinical and other documentation to professional standards
- Completing work place based assessments of Specialty Trainees.
- Ensuring timely completion of discharge summaries and clinic letters.
- Organising on-call rotas for junior and middle tiers, in accordance with current standards.
- Support the organisation and delivery of induction programmes for new medical staff.
- Organisation and delivery of weekly teaching sessions and monthly perinatal meetings.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Hold full or eligible for GMC registration and licence to practice.
- At least 4 years full-time postgraduate training (or its equivalent gained on a part-time or flexible basis) at least 2 of which will be in a specialty training programme or as a Fixed Term Specialty Trainee in Paediatrics; or equivalent experience.
- Hold a current full driving licence which is valid for use in the UK and have access to a car on appointment. This criteria will be waived in the case of applicants whose disability prohibits driving but who have access to a form of transport.
Desirable Skills
- Hold a higher diploma e.g. MRCP, DGM.
- Hold ALS certification.
- Have training in teaching methods.
