Head of Mathematics


Job description

In addition to a teaching commitment and membership of the School’s Middle Leadership Team, the Head of Mathematics duties will include leading the development of the Mathematics Department in line with the School Development Plan and act as line manager for all teachers working in the Mathematics Department..

Responsibilities

  • Lead self-evaluation at departmental level in order to improve performance and pupil outcomes; to provide data and tracking information as required by SLT and Principal
  • To give guidance and support, as required by the SENCO and Assistant SENCO, to teachers delivery of Numeracy and Mathematics within the School
  • To monitor, evaluate and review pupil learning in Mathematics and report outcomes to pupils, relevant staff, Governors and parents as requested

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Hold a teaching qualification which meets the requirements for recognition to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland
  • Hold a teaching qualification which has prepared the applicant to teach in a post primary school
  • Hold a degree or teaching qualification with Mathematics as the main component
  • Have a minimum of 3 years experience in a paid capacity of teaching Mathematics to all levels in an 11 to 18 school within the last 8 years

Desirable Skills

  • Hold an Honours Degree (minimum 2:2) or equivalent or higher in Mathematics or relevant related subject
  • Have worked as part of a team to bring about demonstrable improvement in pupil attainment in mathematics within a school
  • Have played an active role in self-evaluation and action planning for improvement at departmental level or higher
