Job description

Caretaker of St Joseph's Parish Hall, Church Street, Omagh.

Responsibilities

  • Undertake regular daily and weekly cleaning schedule of all areas of the Hall to ensure a high standard of cleanliness
  • Ensuring a sufficient supply of cleaning materials and being responsible for the storage of them, in accordance with prevailing Health & Safety regulations
  • Operation and programming of the boilers (heating), lighting, security alarms, fire alarms and extinguishers in Parish Hall Monitors the appropriate levels of heating and lighting of the Hall, in accordance with guidance from by Line Manager
  • Monitor oils levels in Parish Hall Basic maintenance work in the Parish Hall (e.g., changing light bulbs (low level), painting, leaf clearance, and gutter/gully maintenance
  • Attendance at bi-weekly meeting with Parish office to discuss hall bookings and rota as required Attendance at weekly meeting to advise parish priest and parish hall committee of forthcoming bookings, outstanding invoices and other matters
  • Preparation of Hall including but not limited to moving of furniture and setting up of tables/chairs for weekly bookings and clearing up following event. Attendance as a keyholder at events in the parish hall as rota dictates
  • Ensure that all Health and Safety procedures in the Parish Hall are followed including alarm testing and escape routes are kept clear. Update Risk Assessments annually.
  • Ensure that all annual maintenance of fire-fighting equipment, alarms and PAT testing are carried out. Maintenance of Health and Safety file, accident reporting book and consulting with NIFRS & local council to facilitate their visits.
  • Follow the direction of the Parish Priest in relation to additional Health and Safety procedures that may arise from time to time in Parish Hall e.g., covid regulations. Report any Health and Safety concerns to the Parish Priest
  • Ensure that evacuation procedures in parish hall are up to date and are followed Report any repairs to the Parish Office and obtain written quotations and approval before work commences Take an active role in maintaining good communications
  • To assist in the collection and disposal of all refuse in the Parish Hall and ensure the hall grounds are free of litter and graffiti
  • To ensure adequate stocks of tools, equipment, and materials necessary for the upkeep of the parish hall premises and to report any requirements for additional stocks To maintain the security of all maintenance machinery, tools, equipment, and stock
  • Complete and submit weekly timesheet to Parish Office Any other reasonable requests by the Parish Priest to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the parish hall and grounds of the hall.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Excellent organisational and communication skills
  • Proven experience of caretaking and basic maintenance either in an employed or voluntary capacity
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety Procedures
  • An ability to work on your own initiative
  • An ability to work as part of a team

Desirable Skills

  • Knowledge of the application procedure for an Entertainments Licence
