Job description

The role of South Belfast Community Health Capacity Worker is to build the capacity of local residents and communities to identify and address health inequalities in South Belfast Communities that have areas of weak infrastructure and community support. Forward South Partnership is a charity working to regenerate and sustain a healthy and prosperous South Belfast, based on our core values of collaboration, inclusiveness, respect, transparency and accountability. We are currently recruiting for a highly motivated and outgoing individual to join our team as the South Belfast Community Health Capacity Worker. This role will work through existing community assets and groups to build capacity and increase the delivery of health-related programmes and events and support in areas that have weak infrastructure and community support. This is a part-time (28 hours/4 days per week) position at £24,646 per annum, primarily based in the Forward South Partnership office, but community outreach is a significant component of the work. This is a role that would suit an individual who is self-organised and with strong interpersonal and communication skills. The successful applicant will have experience working within the field of community development, have a proven track record of building and sustaining relationships and be able to plan, manage and coordinate projects. .

Responsibilities

  • To coordinate and deliver community capacity building and health promotion programmes to support local people to identify and address health needs.
  • To develop relationships and work in partnership with community and statutory stakeholders.
  • To apply for, manage and report on funding for activities related to health and community development.
  • To build relationships with new and existing groups in South Belfast communities that have been identified as areas of weak infrastructure and community support.
  • To engage and motivate people of all ages and backgrounds in meaningful conversations related to health needs.
  • To encourage and support local people to develop their skills and knowledge in order to deliver health outcomes.
  • To access and link into existing programmes and resources related to health.
  • To work collaboratively and link with existing groups, businesses, and statutory agencies.
  • To provide support to the work of the Strategic Health Officer at Forward South Partnership, in particular the South Belfast Health Strategy.
  • Source funding opportunities and complete funding applications.
  • To manage and monitor budgets and provide monthly reports.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • At least one year experience of delivering health and capacity building programmes within a community development setting or a third level qualification in a relevant subject (e.g.: community development, sport development or health science)
  • Understanding of how to use community development approaches to identify and address health needs.
  • Excellent communication skills including presentation, facilitation and report writing skills.
  • Computer literate, able and willing to keep written and electronic records.
  • Demonstrable ability to mobilise community interest to community engagement.
  • Experience of engaging and working with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Evidence of Confident, sensitive and effective interpersonal and communication skills
  • An understanding of statutory and community provision that would assist the community development process.
  • Knowledge of Community based programmes and interventions to improve health and wellbeing in communities.
  • Proven track record in making and managing successful funding applications.
  • Proven ability to project plan, management of budgets and evaluation of projects.
  • Experience of organising events, for example health fairs, family events, seminars and workshops.

Desirable Skills

  • Strategic knowledge, awareness and understanding of the Making Life Better public health strategic framework.
  • Strategic knowledge, awareness and understanding of the Belfast City wide and locality community planning agenda.
  • Experience of procurement and tendering processes.
