The planning and implementation of the National Lottery Community fund Larne YMCA Autism Support Programme (ASP) youth work programme for young people aged 5-18. To directly manage a team of staff working with children and young people on the Autism Spectrum who may also have ADD or ADHD. This post has been funded by The National Lottery Community Fund. Responsibilities
- To identify, prioritise and deliver a programme of youth work activities based on need in the designated area, relating to the outlined plan and according to Larne YMCA National Lottery funding application.
- To provide leadership and support for a team of part time workers and volunteers within the centre
- To ensure that young people play an active role within Larne YMCA Autism Support Programme and work towards a model of youth participation
- To communicate effectively and develop a rapport with young people, parents and key stakeholders
- To assist young people to express their opinions and realise their goals
- To assist in the development of relationships within the wider community and external agencies
- To provide information and support to young people
- To support young people in evaluating youth work activities and the impact of youth work on their development
- To design and deliver targeted youth work projects as directed by young people needs
- To ensure the safety and well-being of children and young people whilst participating in Larne YMCA activities
- To be involved in the recruitment, selection and induction of part time staff and volunteers as appropriate.
- To provide regular reports to Line Manager, Board of Management and other key stakeholders to complete relevant administrative duties as required including maintenance of finance records and monitoring and evaluation systems measuring outputs/outcome
- To participate in Child Protection and other staff training as agreed with the CEO
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- A BSc in Community Youth Work and or equivalent as deemed suitable by Larne YMCA.
- A minimum of 2 years experience of delivering centre based youth work (including programme planning, delivery and evaluation)
- A minimum of 2 years experience of working with children and young people.
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of the NI Youth Work Curriculum and relevant policy and procedures in relation to working with children and young people with autism/ADD or ADHD.
- Accredited qualifications relating to working with children and young people
- Previous line management of staff and volunteers
