Participation Worker


Job description

MACS Led By You Service supports children and young people aged 16 to 25 to participate fully in MACS services. The Participation worker will support the development of opportunities for young people and to put their ideas forward so they have a say in how we deliver our services. Young people will receive individualised support through support planning, regular reviews and keeping safe planning where appropriate. .

Responsibilities

  • Ensure all young people are cared for and supported through appropriate staffing.
  • Adhere to NISCC Code of Conduct and MACS Policies and Procedures including; Child Protection, Adult Safeguarding and Lone Working in order to safeguard young people and staff.
  • Provide holistic, practical support to young people on a one to one and group basis to encourage their participation and allow them to have their say on service delivery.
  • Work one-to-one with young people to develop individual goals and support plans to encourage their personal and professional development.
  • Maintain and review accurate and up to date records including support plans, keeping safe plans and contact records.
  • Work effectively within a team, ensuring information is communicated with young people and external agencies.
  • Recording and communicating in line with statutory, funder and MACS requirements.
  • To be proactive in service development, network with external agencies and promote the profile of MACS.
  • To contribute to the induction and support of new staff.
  • Advocate for young people to ensure they have their voices heard.
  • Promote team cohesion with a solution focused approach and the use of the Decision-Making Model.
  • Engage in reflection, personal and professional development both personally and as part of a team.
  • Identify need for group work opportunities including the development of groups based on service needs.
  • To support the development of Led By You including recruitment and support of Young Leaders.
  • To ensure Young Peoples views and opinions are heard and acted upon.
  • To ensure MACS continue to provide high quality services to young people and stakeholders.
  • To provide an advocacy role for young people using MACS services.
  • To meet to with manager monthly in supervision and work on agreed targets as identified in the balance scorecard.
  • Manage budgets and identify sources of funding to meet needs of young people and apply independently for this.
  • Undertake any other duties as required.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • 2 years experience of working with Children and Young people aged 16-25 OR Degree in Social Work, Youth and Community Work or similar AND 1 years experience of working with Children and Young people
  • Experience of successfully liaising with a variety of agencies
  • Demonstrate experience in promoting and supporting young peoples participation
  • Demonstrate resilience and compassion when working with young people
  • A full current driving licence and access to a car is required so as to be able to meet the requirements of the post in full.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of groupwork
