Maintenance Support Officer


Job description

The purpose of the Maintenance Support Operator is to complete mechanical tasks and routine maintenance checks, providing support to engineering personnel, allowing them to complete tasks safely and efficiently. .

Responsibilities

  • Adherence to safe working procedures and practices at all times.
  • Completion of mechanical maintenance tasks including those that are identified during routine maintenance checks (e.g. replacement of chains, bearings and sprockets), basic fabrication, pipe fitting work and machine changeovers.
  • Provide support to engineering personnel through scaffolding, manual handling, work access, work at heights, fire protection measures and preparation of parts and equipment.
  • Completion of routine equipment checks/ lubrication and associated documentation.
  • Transportation and collection of engineering components and liaison with suppliers.
  • Maintenance of lighting systems across site when and where required.
  • High level of housekeeping in all designated engineering areas.
  • Involvement in continuous improvement work and audit improvement.
  • Provide cover for the Engineering Stores Controller. Maintain the computerised stock management system through issue, receipt and storage of engineering goods.
  • To be flexible with working hours to suit business requirements.
  • Take reasonable care for the health and safety of self and others, ensuring compliance with safety regulations in area of responsibility, in line with all relevant Health & Safety legislation.
  • To develop own performance by completing relevant learning and development activities.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Must be competent in general mechanical tasks.
  • Competent in use of IT applications.
  • Proactive and flexible in day to day approach with the ability to adapt to changing priorities.
  • Systematic and logical in approach and strives for accuracy.
  • Good verbal and numerical skills with the ability to interact with all teams, areas and levels of the business in a professional manner.
  • Ability to work at heights.

Desirable Skills

  • Valid Forklift Licence and experience.
  • Must have previous experience in a stores environment.
  • Previous engineering experience / apprenticeship / time served.
  • Experience in a manufacturing environment.

Further Information

Work time: Monday to Friday overtime potential on weekends.
