Job description

Responsible to the Registrar for undertaking the duties necessary for the provision and administration of a confidential and efficient Registration Service for Births, Deaths, Marriages and Civil Partnerships. To have a comprehensive and working knowledge of all relevant legislation, including Acts, Orders and Statutory Regulations and to make such decisions as authorised by statute and regulation concerning all Registration duties. To officiate at marriage and civil partnership ceremonies in Council premises and at other approved venues. Ensure that the department complies with all statutory and legislative requirements by adhering to these requirements and working in accordance with good governance and health and safety requirements Ensure that all responsibilities are carried out in a timely and effective manner and that general confidentiality is maintained in all areas relating to the work of the Council..

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for: Birth Registrations, Death Registrations and Marriage/Civil Partnership Registrations and Ceremonies.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Five GCSE's (Grades A-C) including English Language or equivalent qualifications.
  • One year's (two years if you do not have the academic requirement at Criteria 1) relevant experience in at least two of the following areas:
  • Dealing with members of the public with tact, diplomacy and sensitivity
  • Dealing with confidential/sensitive information
  • Cash handling, reconciliation and lodgements.
  • A full current driving licence (Category B, valid in the UK) and access to a vehicle that will enable the post holder to meet the requirements of the post OR have access to a form of transport that enables you to carry out the duties of the post.
  • By its nature the post will require flexible working, for example, work outside normal working hours to include providing call-out cover for registration of deaths at weekends and Bank/Public Holidays as required.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience of carrying out formal registration duties involving members of the public.

Further Information

The closing date for receipt of completed application forms is Tuesday 21 March 2023 at 4 pm. The postholder will work in Ballycastle and Coleraine. 20 hours per week. Monday & Friday 1.00 pm - 5.00 pm. Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday 9.00 am - 1.00 pm. (Based in Coleraine on Wednesday, based in Ballycastle all other days).
