Job description

The post holder will be responsible for ensuring the efficient day to day running of a Molecular section within Virology laboratory, utilising the resources available and to implement senior management decisions relating to department and trust policy. He/she will also take direction from the Laboratory Service Managers and Clinical Leads on day-to-day matters relating to all aspects of UKAS accreditation and patient and staff safety in the laboratory service..

Responsibilities

• Co-ordinate laboratory investigations, interpretation, resolution, documentation and reporting of results.
• Be responsible for writing and the regular review of standard operating procedures (SOPs) in line with UKAS requirements.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Must hold an MSc Biomedical Science or an IBMS Higher Specialist Diploma; or be a Fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Science or equivalent.
• Current registration as a Biomedical Scientist with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Desirable Skills

• Chartered Scientist.
