Job description

Trainee Nurse endoscopist is a developmental post, the post holder will be working towards becoming a qualified Nurse endoscopist after successful completion of all relevant training. (Post graduate Diploma / degree in gastroenterology, registered with JETS and achieved Joint Advisory Group (JAG) accreditation for Gastroscopy or Colonoscopy and completed Independent Non-medical Prescribing course V300). The trainee will fulfil the role under the supervision of a named Endoscopist who is trained and qualified as trainer. The supervisor may be a nurse endoscopist or a consultant endoscopist. The supervision will be clearly linked to the competencies that require completion within a prearranged and designated time frame. The focus will be on developing autonomous practice. The qualified Nures endoscopist will use their expert knowledge and complex decision making skills during dedicated training session. Qualified endoscopist is accountable for the total episode of care for patients.

Responsibilities

• Undertake clinical assessment of patients requiring lower GI or upper GI endoscopy
• Identify abnormalities and act according to protocols and guidelines

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Nursing Degree & 3 years post registration experience within Endoscopy services OR 5 years post registration experience as a Band 5 including 3 years within Endoscopy services
• Live registration with NMC - Part 1.
