Catering Assistant
Job description
To actively participate in the daily operation of the Catering Unit under the direction of the Senior Unit Catering Supervisor. Team participation is essential to provide an efficient hygienic service, to achieve customer satisfaction and to promote sales within the unit. Responsibilities
- Basic preparation of food and beverages, including the preparation of vegetables and snacks using appropriate equipment
- Simple cooking, including the reconstitution of prepared food
- Organising and controlling food service points
- Transferring and serving meals and snacks including transported meals
- Assisting with the promotion of meals to pupils and parents
- Maintaining regular contact with the central kitchen, if applicable, with regard to all aspects of service delivery
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Willingness to undertake job related training
- Demonstrable knowledge of the requirements of a school caterer
- Demonstrable knowledge of relevant legislation with regard to hygiene in a catering environment
- Demonstrable knowledge of health and safety procedures in a catering environment
- Evidence of effective communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal and team working skills
- Effective organisational and planning skills and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines
- Evidence of how your experience and approach to work reflect the school's ethos and values
Desirable Skills
- Hold a Level 2 Certificate (or higher) in Food Safety or an equivalent qualification
- Evidence of refresher training will be required where the qualification has been attained outside of the last 3 years
- Experience of catering in a school meals, or similar catering establishment, where food is prepared, cooked and served
- Experience of cash handling
- Knowledge of food nutrition, and providing food to meet special dietary requirements
