Trainee Associate Carer
Job description
The Employer is: EAST EDEN LIMITED OWEN MOR CARE CENTRE. The Associate Carer role is primarily a training role with a focus on enhancing the employees skills and knowledge base to provide a foundation for a future role of carer in the care home setting. This role will require employee participation for our E Learning platform for care related training modules. The employee will also participate in face to face training as provided by the care home for Manual Handling, Safeguarding Vulnerable Adults, Infection Control and Fire Safety. The employee will attend regular supervision and/ or supervision review meetings when agreed/ planned by the Home. The employee will work under the instruction and supervision of an experienced Senior Care staff member at all times. Options for progression at the end of the training period will include progression to linked vocational NVQ Health & Social Care training via our confirmed training link/ partner. All Associate Carer roles must have an enhanced access NI check completed prior to commencement. All hours worked are completed on a 12hr shift basis which will include alternate weekends. Annual leave entitlement is 5.6 weeks per year inclusive of Bank Holidays.
Responsibilities
- The employee will assist under supervision the staff team to provide an effective service to patients, with an understanding of their wants and needs.
- To respect the rights of patients, including privacy and dignity.
- To assist patients in personal care, including washing, dressing and toilet needs.
- To ensure that patients are socially presentable in appearance at all times whilst respecting patients personal choices in attire and grooming.
- To participate in social activities with patients and to use all interactions with patients as an opportunity for stimulation/occupation.
- To pay due respect to patients possessions and to ensure that bedrooms and communal areas are tidy and presentable.
- To assist in the serving and clearing of meals, snacks and drinks.
- To assist patients to eat and drink, monitoring intake and reporting changes/concerns to the Senior Carer and/ or Nurse-in-Charge.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- A genuine interest in caring for the elderly.
- Good oral communication skills. Ability to communicate with patients/residents, colleagues at all levels of seniority and families/visitors.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- A desire to update knowledge and learn new skills.
- Good team working skills.
- Availability for shift work that will include days, weekends, and public holidays.
Desirable Skills
- Experience of caring for older people in a nursing home or other setting.
- Any experience in completion of First Aid Training or Health related studies i.e. Health & Social Care/ Dementia or mental health disorder.
- An understanding of the concerns and issues regarding the care of those with dementia or mental health disorder.
- Caring and compassion for those with mental health disorder or dementia and their representatives and families.
- An understanding of the issues regarding the Protection of Vulnerable Adults.
- Working knowledge of relevant Health & Safety legislation.
