Job description

The Employer is: SAINTFIELD SPORTS CLUB. Occupational skills would not need to be that strong at the start for the applicant as it would primarily be a learning on the job for cricket square maintenance. Also, there would be a gradual process of learning to use lawnmowers on pitches and the square. As time progresses the applicant would gain confidence with grass maintenance and improve their skills with the operation of lawnmowers. There is also the outfield needing cut 2 or 3 times a week which will be a different skill set as the mower for that task is operated completely differently. We would view the applicant as someone who is keen to learn about grass maintenance. If enthusiasm was there the applicant should learn on the job. Pitch maintenance and pitch preparation would be combined and would involve other skill sets such as scarifying before cutting new pitches down to lower heights than square maintenance height. A skill set would need to be developed to use a ride on roller as a fair amount of time is spend rolling pitches before and during use on match days. Pitch reseeding is again a different skill set as it would involve a walk behind machine after the finished with pitches had been lightly scarified, fertilised, lightly top dressed and spiked. All these jobs are different, and all are required to be done to reseed efficiently. .

Responsibilities

• As time progresses and skill sets are improved to take some more ownership of the project. It would be assumed the applicant in time would make suggestions of their own to hopefully improve the overall job experience.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• A small knowledge of lawnmowers and cutting grass with same.
• Ability to work on a task on their own when someone else on the ground is working on a different task.

Desirable Skills

• Good time keeping as is a volunteer club for everything.
• Knowledge of grass growth and soil management would be useful.

Further Information

The Employer is: SAINTFIELD SPORTS CLUB. Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended, and it could lead to a permanent position. The job advert may end before the closing date if requested by the employer.
