Climate Resilience Researcher (Climate NI Team)
Job description
We are looking for a Climate Resilience Researcher who has passion and experience supporting people and places to prepare for our changing climate. This is a critical post, leading delivery of the Transboundary Adaptation Learning Exchange (TALX2) programme. The work will be varied and engaging, and aims to translate research and evidence into practical action by communities and partners across the island of Ireland, and the wider UK. The post holder will work closely with the Climate NI Team at Northern Ireland Environment Link, including involvement on the Climate Northern Ireland Programme and other NIEL climate change adaptation projects.
Responsibilities
- Conduct and lead the TalX project on behalf of NIEL under the supervision and direction of the Climate NI Manager.
- Work in active partnership with project partners to ensure timely design and delivery of the TalX2 project deliverables and milestones. This includes regularly attending meetings with partners as required, both remotely and in person.
- Work with project team to develop and implement suitable approaches to co-design, stakeholder engagement and desk-based research.
- Lead an exploration of the role of transboundary dialogue in enabling learning, improved adaptation planning and implementation, including how this aligns with other NIEL projects.
- Contribute to the development, testing, implementation and dissemination of the TalX Climate Adaptation Partnership Framework.
- Organise events such as living lab activities, conferences, workshops and seminars.
- Report to the EPA project steering group, including preparation and delivery of publications, presentations and reports.
- Work with TalX project partners to disseminate project findings and guidance using methods suited to a variety of audiences (E.g. Central and local government stakeholders, academic journals, community organisations etc).
- Conduct administration work associated with the project including preparation of project reports and financial claims under supervision of Climate NI Manager and NIEL Finance Manager.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge on climate change, stakeholder engagement methods and relevant policy.
- Carry out any additional duties as may reasonably be required within the general scope and level of the post.
- The post holder may be required to undertake activities to support delivery of other NIEL projects.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- A higher degree (Masters) or equivalent experience in a relevant subject or demonstrable compensatory experience.
- A minimum of 3 years' experience in a relevant role.
- Experience and competence in climate change adaptation science, policy or practice.
- Experience of stakeholder engagement on climate action targeted at a specific audience (e.g. government, voluntary, public, private, communities).
- Experience of oral and written communication on climate action targeted at a specific audience (e.g. government, voluntary, public, private, communities).
- Experience of playing a leading role in project delivery and demonstrable ability to work independently to manage workload to meet agreed targets and deadlines.
- Demonstrable ability to work with internal colleagues and external partners to achieve results.
- Knowledge of the latest developments in climate policy nationally and internationally experience of organising events and activities.
- Working knowledge of IT systems including Microsoft Office packages.
Desirable Skills
- PhD Qualification or equivalent experience.
- Experience of providing adaptation support to individuals, businesses, organisations or communities.
- Understanding and experience of participatory and co-design stakeholder engagement methods to support climate action.
- Experience of developing and supporting use of tools and guidance to support organisations and citizens in climate planning and action.
- Experience of liaising with scientists and practitioners, collating information and writing reports.
- Ability to perform geo-spatial analyses and apply geo-spatial research techniques.
- Experience of communicating research findings to a variety of audiences (e.g. end users, organisations, academic journals and conferences).
