Principal Lecturer - Sustainability and Social Responsibility


Job description

The North West Regional College is committed to creating a sustainable and environmentally responsible College that reflects the principles of global sustainability initiatives. The Principal Lecturer - Sustainability & Social Responsibility will play a key role in aligning the College’s sustainability strategy with international sustainability goals such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The College’s sustainability efforts are closely aligned with the Derry/Londonderry & Strabane City Deal which focuses on driving economic growth, innovation and sustainability in the region. The post holder will create and promote sustainable practices to foster a culture of sustainability and environmental responsibility across the College through effective communication and stakeholder engagement. Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the Leadership and Management team and the Curriculum Leadership team in relation to sustainability and social responsibility projects
  • Develop the College’s Sustainability Strategy in line with international sustainability goals and the Department for Economy’s economic vision
  • Contribute to the College Sustainability Working Group making recommendations in relation to the implementation of the College’s Sustainability Strategy with a focus on curriculum and course development for all stakeholders
  • Lead and monitor the College’s Sustainability Action Plan relating to the implementation of key sustainability issues and integrate sustainability best practices into operational and educational activities
  • Contribute to the creation of policies and procedures to promote sustainable practices across all College activities

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Have a University Degree equivalent qualification in an area of curriculum offered by the College OR have at least a Level 5 qualification in an area of curriculum offered by the College and 3 at least three years post qualifying experience
  • Have GCSE English (Grade C or higher) or Essential Skills Level 2 (or higher) in Communication, or any qualifications which are deemed to be equivalent
  • Have GCSE Maths (Grade C) or Essential Skills Level 2 (or higher) in Numeracy, or NICATS Access Maths Modules, or any qualifications which are deemed to be equivalent
  • Have a Post Graduate Certificate in Education or equivalent qualification recognised for teaching in the Northern Ireland FE Sector or be currently registered with the General Teaching Council for Northern Ireland (GTCNI)
  • Experience (within the last three years) of: Participation and success in establishing sustainability related projects and programmes, Sourcing external funding for projects, Stakeholder engagement in the areas of sustainability
