Department: Warehouse & Yard Operations Hannon Steel Reports to: Works Manager / Operations Manager Location: Templepatrick - from January we will be moving to a new purpose built, state of the art facility in Nutts corner. Shift Pattern Typical hours: Monday to Thursday 4pm to 1am Friday 3pm to 11.00pm Occasional overtime as required to meet customer demand. Job Purpose We are a leading steel stockholder supplying structural steel, plate, and associated products to the construction and engineering sectors across Northern Ireland. We are currently seeking a Steel Handler to join our warehouse team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe, efficient handling, movement, and storage of steel products within our yard and warehouse operations.

Responsibilities

• Material Handling: Load, unload, and move steel using overhead cranes, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment.
• Order Picking: Accurately select and prepare steel sections, plates, and profiles according to customer orders and cutting lists.
• Storage & Organisation: Ensure stock is stored safely and logically within designated areas, maintaining yard and warehouse tidiness.
• Safety Compliance: Follow all company safety policies and procedures, including the use of PPE, load-securement, and manual handling best practices.
• Equipment Checks: Carry out pre-use checks and report defects or maintenance issues on cranes, forklifts, and lifting gear.
• Documentation: Complete delivery notes, stock movement forms, and system entries accurately.
• Teamwork: Work closely with drivers, machine operators, and office staff to ensure smooth workflow and timely dispatch of orders.
• Quality Control: Inspect materials for damage, correct identification, and conformance to order specifications.
• Housekeeping: Maintain a clean and safe working environment in accordance with company standards

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Previous experience handling steel or heavy materials in an industrial, warehouse, or fabrication environment.
• Good awareness of health and safety procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret basic job sheets.
• Physically capable of manual work in a busy yard environment.

Desirable Skills

• Experience in a steel stockholding or fabrication company.
• Slinger/Signaller training or experience working with lifting accessories.
• Competent in operating overhead cranes and/or counterbalance forklifts (certification desirable).
