Child Care Support Worker - Team Leader
Job description
Work alongside the Programme Manager to ensure comprehensive assessment of each child, young person and young adult, monitoring their developmental milestones while accessing services of Kids Together.
Responsibilities
- Maintain absolute integrity and confidentiality in relation to personal issues and care of children, young people and young adults with disabilities and their families supported by Kids Together and other associated groups/organisations.
- Maintain a high standard of professionalism, acting as a positive role model for staff, children, and families.
- Participate in appropriate training as directed by Kids Together and highlight own training needs in their Continued Personal Development Plan.
- Adopt a proactive approach in promoting Kids Together and activities relating to the programmes.
- Ensure adherence to all Kids Together policies and procedures.
- Represent Kids Together at relevant meetings/functions.
- Lead, support, and supervise a team of practitioners to ensure consistently high-quality, inclusive practice.
- Provide day-to-day direction, organise staff deployment, and ensure ratios and routines are maintained.
- Implement planning, delivery, and evaluation of activities aligned with the EYFS and tailored to individual needs.
- Monitor progress and ensure interventions are effective and regularly reviewed, liaising closely with programme manager.
- Work closely with external professionals (Speech & Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Educational Psychologists, health visitors, etc.).
- Ensure safeguarding procedures are followed and concerns are reported promptly.
- Oversee health and safety practices, including risk assessments, medication protocols, and personal care routines.
- Promote positive behaviour support, emotional regulation, and trauma-informed approaches.
- Engage in a specific individualised programme of support for children, young people and adults accessing services of Kids Together.
- Assist in the procedures for assessing, monitoring and evaluating all programmes offered by Kids Together.
- Participate in the development of mechanisms to reach/support isolated children, young people and adults with disabilities in the community.
- Any other duties deemed necessary by the management of Kids Together Belfast.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Hold a level 3 Childcare qualification for the last 3 years.
- At least 2 years working with children with a range of special educational needs (e.g. ASD, developmental delays, physical needs, communication difficulties).
- Experience leading or supervising a team in an early years or SEND setting.
- A clear understanding of challenging and injurious behaviours displayed by children, young people or adults with disabilities.
- A clear understanding of Autism.
- Paediatric First Aid (or commitment to complete)
- Experience developing and implementing individualised learning plans and behaviour support strategies.
- Four GCSEs one of which must be English Language (or equivalent).
- Evidence of further training and qualifications relevant to the post.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills both written and oral.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent organisational skills.
- Ability to demonstrate proficient administration skills such as legible record keeping, including IT skills
Desirable Skills
- Level 5 Childcare.
- Demonstrate a firm commitment to the inclusion and equality of people with disabilities.
- Experience of working in a team environment.
- Experience of working in a group situation with people with disabilities.
- Knowledge of the needs of volunteers and the ability to support them.
