Fine Art and Gallery Assistant
Job description
THE EMPLOYER IS: WHATS ON YOUR WALL DERRY LTD A Gallery Assistant plays a vital role in the daily operations of an art gallery, assisting with exhibition preparations, visitor services, and administrative tasks.
Responsibilities
- Exhibition Support: Assist in setting up exhibitions, including arranging displays and managing art installations. You will help prepare promotional materials for exhibitions.
- Visitor Interaction: Greet and interact with visitors, providing information about the artworks, exhibitions, and the gallery's history. You will ensure visitors follow gallery rules to protect the artwork.
- Administrative Duties: Handle record-keeping, maintain databases of artists and their works, and manage the sale of artwork. This may include processing sales and handling inquiries from potential buyers.
- Event Assistance: Support special events hosted by the gallery, such as openings, educational programs, and tours. This includes managing guest lists and logistics for events.
- Gallery Maintenance: Ensure the gallery space is clean, organized, and welcoming. This may involve tidying up the gallery and maintaining the front desk area.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Art Knowledge: A strong understanding of art history and contemporary art is essential for assisting in curating and presenting exhibitions.
- Customer Service Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills to interact effectively with visitors and provide exceptional service.
- Organisational Skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks, maintain records, and ensure the smooth operation of the gallery.
- Technical Proficiency: Familiarity with software tools for database management and design (e.g., Microsoft Office, Adobe InDesign) is often required.
- Knowledge of local artists.
- 4 GCSE's C or above (or equivalent qualification).
Desirable Skills
- Previous experience in a similar role.
