Health and Safety Advisor


Job description

Join Mid & East Antrim Borough Council as a Health and Safety Advisor and play an important part in ensuring that all workers within the council are able to work in a healthy and safety conscious environment.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the development, implementation and review of the Corporate Health and Safety Framework in line with the relevant legislation and duty of care.
  • Assist with the development of the Sections annual Health and Safety Objectives as well as the compilation and evaluation of Key Performance Indicators to improve health and safety performance.
  • On a day-to-day basis provide advice, guidance and support to Line Managers in relation to compliance with health and safety legislation, policies and procedures as they apply to employees, functions and buildings of the council and others affected.
  • To support with the implementation and day-to-day operation of the health and safety software system and its related processes.
  • Co-ordinate and respond to health and safety enquiries and requests for assistance from line managers and employees.
  • Participate, as required, in departmental/section health and safety meetings to provide support and guidance on relevant health, safety and wellbeing activity and requirements.
  • Participate in a planned programme of regular inspections and audit of Council premises to advise on all general health and safety matters, produce reports and ensure that recommendations made are actioned.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • A degree or equivalent qualification.
  • Be in possession of a NEBOSH Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent.
  • Be able to demonstrate, by providing personal and specific examples, that they have 2 years’ (4 years if you do not possess the academic criteria above) experience working within a Health & Safety Officer role delivering in the following areas:
  • Proven track record of working within a large multi-disciplinary organisation.
  • Proven track record of providing practical H&S advice and guidance with successful outcomes.
  • Experience of effectively working with a range of internal or external stakeholders including Line Managers and Trade Union Representatives.
  • Developing and implementing H&S policies and procedures that are aligned to corporate priorities and in accordance with legislation and best practice.
  • A full current UK driving licence and access to a vehicle, or access to a form of transport that enables you to carry out the duties of the post (this applies only to applicants who have a disability under the Disability Discrimination Act).

About the role: £20.29 per hour Location: Ballymena Monday to Friday 37 hours a week - to include public holidays, evenings and weekends 2 months with a possible extension Closing date: Friday 12th June at 4pm
