Job description

Undertake all refuse collection duties (including food waste and garden waste) in all weathers as an integral part of a Municipal waste collection crew and other cleansing activity within the Derry City and Strabane District Council area. Refuse Collection Operatives will provide municipal waste collection services in all areas within the Council district as required.

Responsibilities

• Undertake all refuse collection duties (including food waste and garden waste) in all weathers as an integral part of a Municipal waste collection crew and other cleansing activity within the Derry City and Strabane District Council area.
• Redeploy to other duties as required appropriate to grade e.g. during adverse weather conditions that affect normal services.
• Ensure scheduled waste collection is undertaken and completed in accordance with daily operational schedule and that serviced bins are emptied properly, undamaged and returned to designated collection point.
• Collect and return bins to agreed collection point during adverse weather conditions i.e.snow and ice and ensure that assisted bins are collected, emptied and returned to the resident’s property and all gates closed.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Applicants must possess a minimum of 2 years’ relevant experience.
• Experience must include all of the following: Dealing with members of the public. Working as part of a team. General labouring.
• Knowledge and understanding of Health and Safety at Work.
• Knowledge and understanding of the COSHH regulations.

Desirable Skills

• It is desirable that applicants hold one of the following: Current recognised COSHH qualification. Current recognised manual handling qualification. Current recognised Working Safely / Health and Safety qualification.
