Peer Support Worker
Job description
The employer is: VOICE OF YOUNG PEOPLE IN CARE. Effectively engage and communicate with children and young people living in and leaving care. Support children and young people to engage directly with decision makers. Support the development of new initiatives within VOYPIC which promote children’s rights and facilitates their participation in decision making. Represent children and young people in care in meetings, workshops etc.
Responsibilities
- Research and assist in the preparation of training materials.
- Assist in the delivery and evaluation of learning opportunities to key stakeholders in government and the statutory, voluntary and community sectors.
- Raise the profile of care experienced young people, and have their issues placed on the agenda of organisations/agencies/government.
- Attend meetings, training and other forums.
- Assist in the monitoring and evaluation of program activity.
- Participate in regular support and supervision.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Must be 21 and over.
- A recent experience of being in care i.e. you will have lived in foster care, kinship care, a children's home, or at home in care and have since left care in the last ten years.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage with a range of audiences e.g. children and young people, adult decision makers.
- Have a good understanding of the issues for looked after children and care leavers.
- Ability to travel independently across Northern Ireland.
- Ability to manage the responsibilities of the role alongside other personal commitments.
- Passionate about the work of VOYPIC and contributing to its growth.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills.
- Experience of using email, the internet, social media, Word and PowerPoint.
- An interest in and experience of public speaking or training.
- A personal and friendly manner.
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required.

The employer is: VOICE OF YOUNG PEOPLE IN CARE. To be confirmed with employer, may include evenings and weekends Salary: £9.50 per hour. Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity hours may be extended and it could lead to a permanent position. The job advert may end before the closing date if requested by the employer.
