Wild Youth Assistant


Job description

The Employer is: BELFAST HILLS PARTNERSHIP. This job provides an opportunity to be part of the Belfast Hills Partnership team. You will be specifically involved in the ‘Wild Youth’ project, assisting our experienced ‘Wild Youth Officer’ work with young people aged 11-25 years old. This project helps young people to connect to nature and improve their health and wellbeing and involves a range of fun hikes, activities and bush craft. You will also gain insights into the wider organisation, and get the opportunity to be involved with the various conservation activities undertaken by the team..

Responsibilities

  • To work with Belfast Hills Partnerships Wild Youth Officer to execute youth engagement programmes in line with BHP work plans.
  • To help young people recover from the effects of Covid19 by applying the 5 steps to wellbeing principles through exploration of and volunteering in the natural environment.
  • To record key performance data such as engagement numbers and gathering feedback from groups.
  • Ensure Health and Safety policies, procedures and guidelines are adhered to at all times.
  • To work with other staff and volunteers to carry out any other duties required for the effective operation of the Partnership and its projects.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Ability to walk for a couple of hours (may include steep/muddy terrain).
  • Enjoys working with groups of young people.
  • Good verbal communicator.
  • An interest in nature.
  • Works well with others and happy to get stuck in to whatever needs done.
  • Not afraid to get muddy or wet.

Desirable Skills

  • Good knowledge of local wildlife (don't panic if you don't have this, you will learn while out and about).

Further Information

The Employer is: BELFAST HILLS PARTNERSHIP. Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended, and it could lead to a permanent position. Belfast Hills Partnership and Ulster Wildlife have joined forces to deliver an exciting new Youth Programme called Wild Youth, funded by the National Lottery Community Fund. This project delivers wild wellbeing sessions with 11-25 year olds, in and around the Belfast Hills, using nature as a tool to connect with young people and increase their physical and mental health, incorporating the 5 steps to wellbeing.
