Youth Development & Support Worker-in-Charge


Job description

The development and delivery of the agreed unit programme, the resourcing of funds to deliver programming, the management of appropriate staff/volunteers and the implementation of organisational policies. To oversee, initiate and resource an agreed targeted programme of work that at its minimum delivers the set target outputs for the YEP GSCA, EA/DfC programme. To work directly with and in of support young people to develop their social and personal education and confidence by providing programmes of activities including a range of youth work methodologies. This post is for youth workers that have operational responsibility for a local youth club/project. The post holder will be line managed by the Arts Director /Voluntary management committee..

Responsibilities

  • To identify, prioritise and deliver a programme of youth work activities based on need in the designated area, related to the Model for Effective Practice and in line with the minimum target outputs for the Youth Engagement Plus programme.
  • To provide leadership and support for a team of part-time workers and volunteers within the club/project and support their access to training and professional youth work development opportunities.
  • Ensure that young people play an active role in the club/project and work towards a model of youth participation and to provide extended engagement opportunities to support the needs of our YEP young people to include weekend work as deemed required.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with the wider community and external agencies including the active participation in local and city-wide Youth Forums and Engagement Groups to support the collective development and needs of our young people.
  • Provide information and support to young people to assist them to express and realise their goals and to work effectively in groups.
  • Encourage young people to broaden their horizons and be active citizens.
  • Monitor and evaluate the quality of youth work activities, supporting young people in the evaluation of the activities and the impact of youth work on their development.
  • Support young people in their understanding of risk and challenge and in taking action to address key issues in their lives.
  • Implement the Management Committees Child Protection Policy and lead on implementation of Access NI protocols in relation to our organisations work with young people to safeguard their welfare and the welfare of others.
  • Administration and evaluation of the GSCA Youth Engagement project funding resources within the organisation arising from EA YEP/GSCA Action Plan including financial matters, effective record keeping and ensuring that the admin requirements are met.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • NI Youth Service Youth Support Worker Qualification, or OCN Level 3 Introduction to Youth Work and Programme Development, or an equivalent Youth Work Qualification and a minimum or one years experience working within a youth setting.
