Kitchen Assistant Bank Staff
Job description
The Kitchen Catering Assistant will assist with running the day-to-day catering operations and services in the Hostel. They will be responsible for monitoring the quality of the food and services. The primary purpose of the job is to achieve good quality service within a budget and maintain high standards of hygiene and resident satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- To assist and contribute to the preparation, cooking, serving and presentation of meals.
- Ensure that all food served is sufficient in quantity and quality and that it is well presented; also ensuring that there is an appropriate supply of in-house produce and the utilisation of the Fair Share Scheme.
- Prepare and maintain records of nutritious and well-balanced menus, catering for the dietary requirements of residents.
- Promote and ensure a high standard of hygiene of equipment and in the kitchen, stores and dining room
- Assist with the ordering of kitchen supplies in line with NWMM procurement procedure and manage the delivery of all kitchen supplies ensuring any anomalies are fully investigated.
- Ensure the secure storage of all provisions.
- Have due regard for health, safety and fire standards in the department and ensure compliance with all relevant Health and Safety and Health and Hygiene legislation, policies and procedures.
- Be alert to any possible danger either from defects in premises or equipment and bring these to the Catering Manager.In the event of any immediate danger, to take appropriate action to reduce the risk of physical injury to residents or staff
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Ability to work without close supervision and as part of a team.
- The ability and willingness to work bank hours that often includes covering weekdays and weekends.
- A minimum of 1 years paid experience in a similar role.
- Basic Food Hygiene Certificate.
- Awareness of health and safety within a kitchen environment.
- Awareness of the needs of vulnerable adults.
Desirable Skills
- English and Maths Grade C or above, or Essential Skills Level 2 Communication and Application of Number, or equivalent.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of people who are homeless.
