Shop Assistant


Job description

To assist and serve customers, providing outstanding customer service. To assist with processing donated stock including sorting, steaming, pricing and hanging of donated items. To move stock between shop and sorting centre. To assist in the visual merchandising of the shop. To be involved with till operation and the handling of cash. To assist in ensuring that health and safety processes are followed and general maintenance issues are reported. To promote public understanding of the work Foyle Hospice delivers and the importance of raising funds through the shops.

Responsibilities

  • Staff are expected to treat everyone they come into contact with in a courteous and respectful manner at all times.
  • All duties must be carried out in compliance with Foyle Hospice's health and safety policy and statutory regulations.
  • Staff members must adhere to all policies and procedures of Foyle Hospice.
  • All information relating to patients and staff must be held in the strictest confidence and must not be divulged to any unauthorised person unless it is in the best interests of the individual.
  • Conduct: Employees must abide by Foyle Hospice's policies and procedures and the terms of their contract of employment. They must conduct themselves with impartiality, integrity, objectivity and honesty and maintain high standards of professionalism.
  • Performance: Employees are expected to demonstrate commitment to the hospice by ensuring regular attendance at work and efficient completion of duties.
  • Risk management: Employees must ensure that they comply with any risk management responsibilities specific to their post.
  • Governance: Foyle Hospice is committed to the development and implementation of systems under governance to ensure continuous improvement in the quality of services provided. Employees will be expected to be pro-active, co-operate and work with them.
  • Confidentiality: All information concerning patients and staff must be held in the strictest confidence and may not be divulged to any unauthorized person. Social media policy must be adhered to at all times.
  • Equality and human rights: Employees must ensure that equality and human rights issues are addressed within the post holder's area of responsibility.
  • Health and safety: Employees should note that under Health & Safety at Work legislation, they are required to take all reasonable steps while at work to ensure their own health and safety and the health and safety of those around them.
  • Smoking, alcohol and health: Foyle Hospice operates policies on smoking, alcohol and health.
  • Environmental cleanliness: Foyle Hospice promotes a culture of cleanliness and has adopted a partnership and collaborative approach that recognises cleanliness as the responsibility of everyone, cascading throughout every level of the organisation.
  • Infection prevention and control: Foyle Hospice operates policies to prevent healthcare associated infections and the post holder is required to comply with all infection prevention policies, guidelines, protocols and procedures.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Good communication skills and the ability to work as part of a team.
  • No experience required.

Further Information

The Employer is: FOYLE HOSPICE. Salary: Under 18 £6.40, 18-20 £8.60, 21 & over £11.44 per hour. Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity, hours may be extended and it could lead to a permanent position. The job advert may end before the closing date if requested by the employer.
