This is an ideal role for those who want to develop their skills knowledge and experience in health promotion or a health and social care field, using a community development approach, working at a grassroots level in a rural community. The Health Promotion Assistant will seek to actively engage in communities to co-ordinate the development, and implementation, of a number of health related programmes to improve the health and wellbeing of those living in the South Armagh area. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of a Community Development approach to Health. With a particular focus to health and wellbeing this job requires individuals to develop a strong and consistent understanding of local health needs. The job role requires the candidate to support the Rural Health Partnership Team to implement their range of community health and wellbeing campaigns. Responsibilities

  • Support the team to deliver wellbeing courses, activities and campaigns, across areas of need.
  • Support the Social Prescribing Officer and Development Worker on Public Health projects, ensuring that statistical data is recorded, performance is monitored and reviewed, and appropriate reports are prepared in a timely manner.
  • Work with the Rural Health Partnership in conjunction with other organisations to development the activities of the project.
  • Work with colleagues and external agencies to identify needs of the local community and ensure programmes are developed to support findings.
  • Engage individuals, and encourage and support them in accessing community development initiatives.
  • Initiate and deliver health promotion campaigns to communities within the South Armagh area.
  • Empower and facilitate individuals and communities to identify and articulate their needs.
  • Help raise public awareness of projects run by the RHP, other partner projects and issues relevant to the community.
  • Coordinate the delivery of community based training programmes including sourcing venues and tutors where necessary.
  • Represent the RHP at events and meetings as required.
  • Undertake any training that will be required for the post.
  • Attend and participate in team meetings.
  • Effectively communicate with RHP colleagues.
  • Undertake other work that may arise on a day to day basis to support the objectives of the RHP, as requested by the RHP CEO.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • Third Level qualification in Health Promotion/Health and Social Care/Community Development OR relevant experience working in health or community development programmes.
  • Understanding of planning and delivery of community based initiatives.
  • Understanding of planning and delivery of successful project-funded initiatives.
  • Understanding of the importance of working in partnership with a variety of organisations.
  • Experience of working with those living in areas of deprivation and inequality.
  • Experience of presenting ideas.
  • Knowledge of health and social care issues.
  • Understanding of the effects of inequality and deprivation.
  • Knowledge of data management and data analysis skills.
  • IT literate including experience of Microsoft Office programmes.
  • Ability to work with hard to engage individuals or groups.
  • Good interpersonal skills to build relationships and network with a wide range of individuals and groups.
  • Ability to work to deadlines.
  • Report writing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Ability to act as an advocate.
  • Ability to identify new opportunities.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to act on own initiative.

Further Information

The employer is: RURAL HEALTH PARTNERSHIP. Salary: 16-17yrs £4.81, 18-20yrs £6.83, 21-22yrs £8.36, 23-24yrs £9.50. Although this is a part-time temporary opportunity hours may be extended and it could lead to a permanent position. The job advert may end before the closing date if requested by the employer.
