Assistant Support Worker


Job description

We are recruiting an Assistant Community Support Worker who can provide support to individuals and families in Larne. This will be an entry level position and full training will be provided to enable you to develop the skills, knowledge and attitude required of a support worker. As an Assistant Community Support Worker you will work with the team to support people with any concerns, many of whom might feel they have no one else to turn to. You’ll be trained to provide 1 to 1 support to individuals with a focus on understanding their problems and helping them to overcome them, by linking into specialist support services. We are looking for a dynamic and dedicated person who can think on their feet - someone with a caring nature who is passionate about making a difference. The ideal candidate needs to be highly organised and adaptable, as no two days will be the same. We are also looking for someone who can work well under pressure and is able to seek out solutions to a person’s concerns without judgement. You will be based at Larne Community Care Centre in the Antiville area of Larne. You will work as part of the Community Connection’s team under the direction of the Project Manager and will be responsible for assisting existing staff to deliver support to the community in line with Larne Community Care Centres aims and objectives. .

Responsibilities

  • Provide support to families or individuals in need of help within the community.
  • To process referrals for our services
  • To ensure rooms are set up for events
  • To be pro-active and visible within the local community, building trust amongst residents.
  • Build a detailed understanding of local support services across Mid & East Antrim and identify referral pathways to access these services.
  • To develop personal relationships with front line staff at other support organisations ensuring services complement one another.
  • To assist with funding applications and requests from funders
  • Assist with the management of support needs within the community ensuring support is being received and progressions are being made.
  • To represent LCCC at community events and be an integral part of the team

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • IT Experience
  • GCSE Maths & English (or equivalent).

Desirable Skills

  • Safeguarding training
  • Community development OR community support qualification
  • Driving licence
  • First Aider certificate

Work time: Flexible Monday-Friday.
