Assistant Economist
Job description
The work of Assistant Economists depends on where they are posted. Individuals will be expected to demonstrate and maintain an up to date understanding of current economic issues and topics. While the precise duties and responsibilities of individual posts will vary, all posts may involve varying degrees of broad activities..
Responsibilities
- Economic support and analysis on a broad range of policies, programmes and strategy development, aligned to the key priorities of the NI Executive
- Providing analytical support in response to key economic and policy issues such as the Cost of Living crisis, Covid-19/economic recovery and EU Exit transition
- Quality Assurance of economic appraisals, business cases and evaluations
- Working with others to develop economic appraisals, business cases and evaluations
- The provision of high quality, reliable, accurate and timely economic briefing to others, both in departments and externally
- Drafting high quality, reliable, accurate and timely submissions to Ministers and/or Senior Officials
- Responding to Assembly Questions and ad-hoc economic queries
- Undertaking research, qualitative and quantitative analysis, economic assessments, best practice reviews and evaluation on a broad range of economic topics and Executive Ministers priorities
- Inputting into draft legislation
- Maintaining an up to date understanding of current economic issues and topics both in Northern Ireland and at a national and international level
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Have at least a second-class honours degree with Economics as a major component OR
- Be students completing a qualification by 31st August 2022 in at least a second-class honours degree with Economics as a major component
