Job description
ETA EOTAS programmes form part of the EA’s Exceptional Teaching Arrangements service to schools for pupils with social, behavioural, emotional and well-being difficulties (SBEW) from KS3 to KS4. Pupils that take up a placement within any of the ETA EOTAS programmes also remain on the register of their mainstream school. Each ETA EOTAS provision is managed under the direction of a Senior Teacher/ Head of Centre. Multidisciplinary work is an essential part of the work in each programme. Collaborative working with schools is an essential element of the work within the ETA EOTAS programmes to plan for young people to integrate back into mainstream school. Hours of work will be teacher terms and conditions but because of the nature of the work there is a need for flexibility to enable the teachers to perform all the necessary duties in connection with ETA EOTAS. Be willing to teach other subjects as appropriate and in line with service and student need. Be able to travel throughout the community to schools/EA premises/Community premises/Pupil homes as required..
Responsibilities
- Planning and preparing courses and lesson
- Teaching, according to their educational needs, the pupils assigned to him/her, including the setting and marking of work to be carried out by the pupils in school and elsewhere
- Promoting the general progress and well-being of individual pupils and of any class or group of pupils assigned to him/her
- Providing advice and guidance to pupils on educational and social matters and on their further education and future careers including information about sources of more expert advice on specific questions, making relevant records and reports
- Providing or contributing to oral and written assessments, reports and references relating to individual pupils and groups of pupils except in instances where to do so might be regarded as compromising a teachers own position
- Participating, if required, in any scheme of staff development and performance review
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Hold a teaching qualification which meets the requirements for recognition to teach in grant-aided schools in Northern Ireland by the closing date for completed applications
- Have experience of delivering programmes of study in a post primary setting in Maths & General Subjects
- Have experience of implementing effective teaching and support strategies for young people with SBEW
Desirable Skills
- Demonstrable experience in the development and delivery of vocational and/or personal development programmes and/or therapeutic interventions within an education setting in a mainstream school /special school/EA provision. e.g Princes Trust/OCN etc
- Demonstrable experience of delivering intensive pupil support programmes to reduce barriers to learning
- Demonstrate two years' experience of delivering/ teaching Maths programmes of study at Key Stage 4
Further Information
Work Time: Monday - Friday. This post will be split between two settings: North West Teachers Centre and between Derry/Londonderry and Limavady.
