Playgroup Assistant
Job description
The assistant should support the leader in ensuring there is a safe, caring and welcoming environment for children and their families. Ensure the playroom is laid out before the session and tidied after session. Attend and participate in all staff meetings, assist in planning. Ensure preparation is carried out and that the activities offered throughout the session allow the children to experience the full breadth of the curriculum as laid down in Department of Education Guidance for Pre-School Education and the HighScope curriculum. .
Responsibilities
- Advise the leader of any matter requiring attention
- Keep strictly confidential any personal information regarding the children, their families or other staff which is learnt as part of the job.
- Encourage parental involvement
- Listen to, encourage, enable, stimulate and ensure the safe keeping of the children
- Attend relevant evening meetings and courses
- Help to provide and take part in all the group's activities.
- Take part in special events and outings
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- NVQ Level III or equivalent
- Previous experience working with young children
- An understanding and knowledge of child development and the importance of parental involvement
- An understanding of the HighScope Approach to early learning
- Ability to identify problems, refer to leader
- Ability to work as part of a team, on own initiative
- Ability to relate well to children, parents, other staff
- Willingness to attend training, evening meetings
- A commitment to equal opportunities
Desirable Skills
- Child observation and record keeping skills
- Current first aid certificate
- Current safeguarding certificate
- Willingness to undertake level 5 training
