Deputy Playgroup Leader
Job description
Help prepare and fully set out the playroom appropriately before the sessions commences and is tidied up after the session ends. Help provide and take part in all the group's activities. Encourage the active participation of all parents by seeking their involvement in their children’s learning. Listen to, encourage, enable, stimulate and ensure the safe keeping of the children. Attend relevant evening meetings and courses as directed by the Leader or Board of Directors. Course fees may be considered by the management for approved training. Advise the Leader of any matter requiring attention e.g. concerns about a child or equipment needing repaired / replaced. Keep strictly confidential any personal information regarding the children, their families or other staff which she/he learns as part of her/his job. .
Responsibilities

- Help provide and take part in all the group's activities.
- Carry out regular observations and make an assessment of each child's needs within the group as directed by the Playgroup Leader.
- Attend and participate in all staff meetings and assist in curriculum planning. Take part in special events and group outings.
Skills and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- QCF Level 5 Diploma in Children's Care, Learning and Development.
- Equivalent professional qualification/BA Honours Degree Early Childhood Studies.
- Previous paid experience working with young children at least 2 years (or working towards).
- An understanding and knowledge of child development and the importance of parental involvement.
- An understanding of the HighScope approach to early learning.
- Ability to identify problems and refer to the leader.
- Ability to deal with problems in the absence of the leader.
- Ability to manage and lead a team in the absence of the leader.
- Ability to work as part of a team or on own initiative.
- Ability to relate well to children, their parents and to other staff.
- Willingness to attend training and evening meetings.
- A commitment to equal opportunities.
- Experience of working with a management committee.
- Child observation and record keeping skills.
Desirable Skills
- Knowledge of the DHSSPS Minimum Standards.
- Ability to lead group if required.
- A current First Aid certificate.
- A current safeguarding certificate.
