Job description

The employer is: SMD CONTRACTS. Assistant to the main repair and maintenance technician. You will be undertaking daily repairs or maintenance to household items and commercial equipment presented for assessment by the recycling team..

Responsibilities

• With the guidance of the main technician, you will be carrying out daily initial inspections of items designated for resale from the recycling team.
• Upon arrival of the items at the workshop you will be responsible for helping with unloading the van and ensuring items are placed properly within the warehouse.
• These items will be either repaired and made ready for sale or will be disposed of.
• The repair of these items will be done within the workshop and the warehouse area where you will follow the lead of the main technician.
• Any items presented for sale will be cleaned and placed in the store for display.

Skills and Qualifications

Essential Skills

• Good standard of education to GCSE level.
• A good interest in DIY/repair/ etc.
• Ability to be hands on with technical tasks.
• Ability to work as part of a small team.
• Open to learning and willing to take instruction in order to help your understanding of the different aspects of the job.
• You will hold a full UK driving licence and have your own transport to work.
• This can be a customer facing role so will require you to be courteous at all times.
• Tidy and organised personality with the ability to keep things moving all the time.
• Full support and training will be provided. Working methods and implementation will be fully disclosed.

Desirable Skills

• We will prioritise someone who has worked in the past in a job where trade skills were required e.g. joinery, electrics, metal fabrication, motor mechanics or in the arts and crafts etc.
• Dexterity and handiness within the individual will be helpful.
• We are looking for an individual who has ambition. You will need to be a person who is up for the task no matter what.
• Thinking on your feet will be required often as the work pattern changes daily.
• We are looking for someone who wants to excel in the position.

Further Information

The employer is: SMD CONTRACTS. Salary: 16/17 £5.28, 18/20 £7.49, 21/22 £10.18, 23/24 £10.42 per hour. Although this is a full time temporary opportunity, it could lead to a permanent position.
